And We're Off...

Field Hockey: Their season opener, which was this past Wednesday, was a bit of a nail biter. Holy Name had many opportunities to score against Gardner but had trouble finding the back of the net. In the end, Gardner pulled away with a 1-0 win. Kayla Quinn was awarded with the hustle sticker at the end of the game. The girls have two home games next week, both starting at 3:30pm! Notre Dame and Doherty better watch out!

Cross Country: Their first meet is this Tuesday against St. John’s.

Boy’s Soccer: In the opening week of the fall sports season, the boy’s soccer team had two games. They played SPM on Tuesday and Whitinsville Christian on Thursday. In the game against SPM there were multiple injuries, including Steven Lammi’s 4 broken bones in his face. The only goal scored by Holy Name in their 2-1 loss was by Hun Jun. The boys had another tough game on Thursday losing 4-1. Hun Jun once again had their only goal.. But the boy’s hopes are still high for the rest of the season.

Girl’s Soccer: The girl’s soccer team opened against St. Bernard’s on Tuesday. St. Bernard’s jumped ahead 1-0 with just a few seconds left in the first half. The second half was a different story though. Just 5 minutes in, Erica Soucy scored to tie it up off of a throw in from the left side Not shortly after that, Hannah Owen put the Naps ahead by finishing Bridget O’Sullivan’s corner kick with her head. The game ended in a victory for the girl’s soccer team, 2-0. Their next game is tomorrow night against Northbridge, at Northbridge High School at 7:00pm.

Football: The Holy Name football team had a tough start to the season on Saturday, losing 40-0 to rivals, St. John’s. After starting the game off with an interception by Seamus O’Sullivan, and a drive that lead them not far from the end zone, but after that the team was also plagued with many injuries, from dislocations, to broken bones, to concussions. We hope that the boys will all be back and ready to go when they face South High on Thursday night at Foley Stadium.
