The fall season came to an official close when the football team lost to Wachusett on Saturday in the Division 1A Super Bowl. This was a tough loss to take especially after such a great victory over Fitchburg on Tuesday. Good luck to all the Seniors going forward: Nick Fritz, James Mullin, Sean Mahoney, Kevin Donohue, Jugert Bango, Evan Charbonneau, Victor Agudelo, Ron Anthony, Miles Goodwin, Qevan Todd, and David Ginisi.
The winter seasons have already started with the indoor track team's practices and the boys and girls basketball teams finishing up tryouts. The schedules are up on the website and this coming week will be filled with scrimmages and practices to prepare these teams for their opening season games. The girls basketball team will play this Friday, December 10th at home at 7pm against Westboro High School.
Once again, great job to all of the fall sports teams. The Seniors will truly be missed!
Go Naps!

The end is near, but for some.. its just the beginning!
Field Hockey: The girls field hockey team played in two games this week. They faced SPM on Tuesday for their last home game of the regular season. The Naps scored early in the first half. However SPM regained the lead by scoring two goals in both the first and second halves. Leaving the final score as 2-1 SPM. Friday was the last regular season game against Burncoat at Burncoat High. Holy Name pulled out successfully with a 2-1 victory. The girls will play their first district game on Wednesday (11/3).
-Elizabeth Holland
Football: The boys clinched their spot in the playoffs by winning their league on Saturday. They beat Doherty 26-7. Sean Mahoney had an exceptional game passing, one of his passes resulted in Ron Anthony's first touchdown since his freshman year. The other touchdowns were scored by Quran Write. The boys face Burncoat at Anna Maria on Friday! They are hoping to keep their winning streak going!
Girl's Soccer: The girls started off their week with a hard faught match against Sutton. Although many chances came along, they were not able to put the ball in the back of the net. This game resulted in a 0-0 tie, which was good enough to clinch their spot in the district tournament. On Thursday night, however, the girls brought their A game, and beat SPM at Bowden Field in Sutton. The support from the boys soccer team, the football team and all the other fans helped the girls march toward their 4-0 victory. Thanks to the very strong Holy Name defenders (Renee Bousquet, Bea Bowden, Hannah Owen, Kelli Breeden) and the goal keeper (Corrie Derosier) the girl were able to post two shutouts for the week. Their senior game will be on Tuesday at Holy Name vs. St. Bernard's. A win at this game will make the girls league champs and undefeated in the league. With districts starting next weekend, the girls are in full swing!

Mixed Emotions Present This Week In Sports..
Boy's Soccer: Last Wednesday after the final whistle blew at the boys game, the field was filled with silence from the players knowing that their dream of going to districts was postponed for once again another year. They played North High at their home field. They started off strong scoring the first goal of the game by junior captain John Soltys off an assist by Matt Curtis. Then the boys let up and gave the game away with a 4-1 loss and walked away with quite a few injuries. Now the boys soccer team is practicing hard to make the best of the rest of their season. Their next game is Tuesday at 3:30 where they will be playing Doherty at Foley Stadium.
Cross Country: This past week the Holy Name Cross - Country Team had a tri-meet at HN with the boys from South and the girls from Notre Dame. HN's boys beat South but the girls did not beat Notre Dame. Thanks to all of those who came out to the meet to cheer us on. This week, cross-country has a meet against North at North High School! Hope to see some people there cheering us on. GO NAPS!
This week was exceptionally good for the Holy Name Cross- Country Team. On Thursday, Oct. 14, The Boy's and Girl's teams faced University Park at their course in Crystal Park. Both the Boy's and Girl's teams won in the meet! This week there is a home meet this Thursday, Oct. 21, against Burncoat. Be sure to come out and support HN XC. GO NAPS!
Golf: The golf team and their district match today, and unfortunately it did not go as well as they had planned. Their dreams of moving on to states were crushed as the harsh weather conditions and the tough course seemed to prohibit the golfers from shooting the low scores we all know are possible. Even the winning team, St. John's, did not play as well as they have in the past. The golf team did, however, finish their season with one of the best records Holy Name golf has ever seen. Best of luck to all the players next year!
Girl's Soccer: Last week, the girls had two games. The first, was only their second home game of the year and it was against Tantasqua. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. On Thursday the girls had a night game at Wachusett. The last time the team played there was when they won the Division 2 District Championship last season. Unfortunately, this game did not have the same results as the District Finals. The girls ended up falling 1-0. Wachusett scored their goal with only a few minutes left in the game. The girls fought hard all game and were disappointed at coming away with the loss. Tonight, the girls faced off against one of the best Division 1 teams in the Central Mass Conference. They traveled to Nashoba Regional High School in hopes of an upset. This was not the outcome, but the girls did have another hard fought game. The score was tied at 0-0
at the end of the first half. In the second half, Nashoba took a 2-0 lead, but the Lady Naps did not give up. Senior Captain, Kelli Breeden, who usually plays sweeper (the last defender on the field) was moved up to the center midfield in hopes of turning the game around. She ended up scoring a goal with only 4 minutes left in the game. Although this did put the girls back in it, they were not able to score again, and in turn fell to Nashoba 2-1. This brings the girl's soccer team's record to 5-5-1. They play North, home at 3:30 on Wednesday, and Doherty home at 3:30 on Friday. As the girls are still fighting to make the tournament, we wish them luck.
Football: This past weekend was Holy Name's Homecoming. At the football game on Saturday, the boys played St. Peter Marian. Although some may say the game was quite sloppy, with multiple turnovers from both teams, Holy Name was able to get the job done and come away with an 18-6 win. This brings their record to 5-1 and they will face North this Saturday at 1pm.

This Week in HN Sports
Golf: The Holy Name golf team clinched their spot in the 2010 Division 2 Districts Tournament this past Monday October 4th against Burncoat at Clearview Country Club. With a few cancellations this week due to rain, the team then played a tri-match at Clearview on Friday October 8th against rivals St. Peter Marian and St. Bernard's. Senior Katie Nelson medaled the match against St. Peter's with a 36. Recognition is due to senior Josh Loell who, coming in with an impressive 39 in the last group, won the St. Bernard's match for his team. With all three wins this week, the Holy Name golf team stands with a record of 10-5, the best record this team has held for many years.
(Katie Nelson)
Girl’s Soccer: The girls only had one game this week, due to another rescheduling of their game versus Sutton. They faced Doherty at Foley Stadium in Worcester and came away with another win. Melissa Andersen had the first goal for Holy Name, and Ana Bowden contributed 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists). Bridget O’Sullivan also had a goal and an assist for the lady naps. This win brings the girl’s record to 5-3.
Football: The football team took on Westboro this past Saturday. By the looks of the first half, it seemed like it was going to be a close game, but th Naps pulled away in the end and came out with a 28-12 victory, their 4th in a row, bringing their overall record to 4-1.
Boy’s Soccer: This week was a bit of a disappointment for the boys soccer team. With their game being postponed on Wednesday, the boys played South High School on Thursday. HN's John Soltys was the first to put away a goal near the end of the half but then they soon lost the lead after.giving up two penalty kicks. It turned into an ugly game once that happened. South scored 3 more goals and unfortunately the boys could only put two more in before the final whistle. Rob Foley and Hun Jun scored for Holy Name, making the final score 5-3.

Rain may have slowed us down, but it didn't stop us!
Football: The football team pulled off a hard fought 12-7 victory up at Nashoba on Saturday night. Nashoba tried to use the excuse of wind and rain on Friday night to push back the inevitable. Nashoba scored an early touchdown but were held to that for the rest of the game. Holy Name was able to score two 4th quarter touchdowns to earn the victory in a hard fought, physical game. The boys return home this Saturday for a 2pm game against Westboro. Hope to see everybody there.
Field Hockey: Although this past week was rainy, our team pulled through with two big wins! Monday we beat Burncoat High School in the pouring rain 2-1, and Wednesday we beat our rivals SPM 2-0. Along with our game Friday vs. Doherty all of our practices this week got rained out, but we still played hard. This puts our record at 4-2-2. We have two games this upcoming week: on Tuesday we play Doherty at home at 3:30 PM, and Wednesday we are traveling to Fitchburg to play Saint Bernard's at 3:30 PM. Wish us luck!
(written by Senior Ellyn Gloshinski)
Golf: This week was tough for the golf team as our two toughest matches of
the year were placed in one week. In all of the rain that we had last
week, we played Wachussett on Monday at Holden Hills and St. John’s on
Wednesday at Clearview Country Club. Even though we had two losses,
the team played well overall. We’re looking forward to clinching
districts with our next win!

Boy’s Soccer: Although their record might not show it, the boys soccer team is finally starting to come together as a team. Earlier in the week, Holy Name's biggest rival, St. Johns, came to our home field to face off against our boys. The visiting pioneers were not expecting a difficult game, but that's exactly what we gave them. Although we did not win, the boys kept the score close the entire game. The final score was 1-0 which is the closest they have kept it in years. The boys came to play and they have shown that they are not a team to be taken lightly. In a way, the boys soccer team had a win that day. Their next game is on Wednesday at Foley Stadium where they will be playing South High.

Girl’s Soccer: The girls soccer team had an easy week this week. Because of all of the rain, they only had one game, with Thursday’s against Sutton being postponed. They played on Tuesday at Burncoat High School. Bridget O’Sullivan put the first goal away for Holy Name as she scored on a corner kick 8 minutes in. She had another goal in the first half, making the score 2-0 at halftime. O’Sullivan scored her third goal in the second half, giving her the hat trick. Tay Boucher and Ana Bowden also contributed late 2nd half goals to Holy Name’s 5-0 victory.

Awesome Week in HN Sports!
Golf: This week was critical for the Holy Name golf team as we won all three
of our matches, putting us at a 7-3 record for the season. We won our
Home vs. Home match against Millbury High School at Clearview Country
Club on Monday, September 20th. On Tuesday, we beat our rival St.
Peter Marian at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club. Senior medalist Nick Smarra
came in with an outstanding 38 2-over par to secure our team with an
impressive overall score of 207. We then won Thursday against
Doherty-South at Greenhill Municipal Golf Course in Worcester. Senior
Katie Nelson medaled with a 2-over par 38.

Field Hockey: The field hockey girls had a busy and successful week this week. This included three games one of which was their first away game. On Monday the Girls field hockey team played a tough game against Saint Bernard’s at home resulting in a 1-1 tie. On Wednesday the team played a rewarding game against Leicester at Holy Name. This was the teams’ first win with the final score of 4-1. On Friday the girls finally left the grounds of Holy Name and played South on their home field. The girls worked together and this allowed them to achieve a 4-1 victory.

Boy’s Soccer: As they approach the halfway point of their season the boys soccer team
has been faced with much frustration. Playing with many injuries the
boys are fighting to hang onto their goal of making districts. Early
last week the boys opened up for the girls in a rough game against
Millbury. They lost 3-0 being shutout the entire game. Later in the
week they faced South and took another loss for their record. The final
score was 4-1 with holy name giving up many unnecessary goals. Hun Jun
scored the only goal off a direct kick for holy name. The boys current
record is 1-6 and they are continuing to work hard trying to turn this
season around as they are anxiously awaiting their biggest opponent of
the year, St. Johns.

Girl’s Soccer: The girls started off their week with a night game at Millbury. Up until this point, they had been struggling to find a groove and play together. Even though they ended up falling 3-0 to Millbury, they played one of their best games yet. They carried their momentum into Wednesday’s game against rivals, St. Peter Marian. Bridget O’Sullivan had the first 2 goals, as Hannah Owen and Tay Boucher both contributed goals in their 4-1 victory. 30 seconds into the start of their game on Friday, Westboro scored off of a miscommunication on a corner kick. The girls were able to hold Westboro to that one goal for the rest of the game, but were not able to finish themselves. Multiple injuries plagued the team, as it was a rough game. The next morning the team was up bright and early running a car wash to contribute to their uniforms and a donation to the Susan B. Komen foundation. Thank you to all who came to support us. The girls hope to come out stronger than ever at Burncoat on Tuesday.
Football: Last Saturday Holy Name took on the Leominster Blue Devils at Assumption College. The Naps (2-1) edged out Leominster (1-2) in a 21 to 14 ballgame. The Naps jumped out to an early six nothing lead as they drove the ball seventy yards on their opening possession capped by a Quron Wright two yard run. Leominster responded with a touchdown of their own on their first possession and the extra point made it a 7-6 game. Holy Name used their running game to their advantage as they ended an eighty yard drive with another Wright TD from short yardage. The score at halftime was 14-7. Leominster again rebounded as they scored on their first possession in the second half. After a Blue Devil turnover, senior fullback Kevin Donohue put the Naps up again with a touchdown and the extra point added on by Victor Aguedelo. The Naps defense tightened and held on to its seven point lead to win the game. While running backs, Wright, Donohue, and Qevin Todd racked up over 300 yards rushing, it was the offensive and defensive lines that kept the Naps in it, led by Jugert Bango, Evan Charbonneau, Bassit Dennis, David Ginisi, and Nick Capuano. Holy Name will look to keep their momentum as they prepare for Nashoba next Friday night.

Cross Country: This week the Holy Name Boy's and Girl's Cross Country team had a fairly good week. On Monday, 9/20, the team had a home meet against Abbey Kelly. Both the Boy's and the Girl's teams won which was very exciting since it was our first win of the season. Then on Thursday, 9/23, the team had an away meet against Doherty at Doherty High School. Sadly, both the Boy's and Girl's teams lost. However, this week we have another meet coming up again on Thursday, 9/30, against Abbey Kelly at their school! We're hoping for another victory! Go NAPS!

We had another great week in HN sports, congratulations to all of our athletes! You will find new photos of games, injuries, and activities that our athletes participated in this week. If anyone has any pictures and would like to see them posted, please send them to osullivanb1401@hotmail.com.
*Our golf team is currently playing without uniforms. There may be a bake sale this week to raise money for them to purchase them on their own. Hopefully they will make the districts and we’d like them well outfitted. Please support the bake sale and help them raise money!
Go Naps!

Sadly, both the Boy's and Girl's teams lost. However, this week we have another meet coming up again on Thursday, 9/30, against Abbey Kelly at their school! We're hoping for another victory! Go NAPS!

*Thank you to everyone who contributed to this weeks blog. I am hoping to get team photos and full rosters posted this week.

This Week in HN Sports
-The fall sports teams participated in a community service day on Sunday, September 19th. The football team and Girls Soccer team brought their hard work and determination from the playing field to the picking field as they harvested beans at the Grafton Community Barn in Grafton Mass. The Community Barn supplies fresh fruits and vegetables to the Worcester County Food Bank. The teams worked hard while enjoying some time with their teammates. Please check out the pictures of the day on the website. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Fritz and Nicholas Fritz who are regular volunteers at the Farm for putting the day together. We hope to do more volunteering in the future.
-Please visit the Girls Soccer Team next week at Savers Bank in Worcester Street in Grafton next Saturday morning for a car wash. The girls are raising money for their team equipment, including concussion headbands, as well as making a contribution to fight breast cancer.
Field Hockey: A 2-2 tie against Notre Dame and a 3-1 loss against Wachusett brings their record to 2-0-1. They play St. Bernard’s home this Tuesday, Leicester home on Wednesday and at South on Friday.
Cross Country: The boys lost to St. John’s on Tuesday and the girl’s lost to Notre Dame on Wednesday. Their next meet is tomorrow against Abbey Kelly and they are looking forward to a win.
Boy’s Soccer: They lost on Monday to Abbey Kelly, 3-1. The lone goal was scored by Robert Foley. Wednesday versus St. Bernard’s the boy’s soccer team came away with their first win! It was a 1-0 victory and the winning goal came from John Soltys. Friday, the boys suffered a 3-1 loss to Doherty. They had chances but unfortunately were unable to capitalize on them. The goal was scored by Michael Hoye. This brings their overall record to 1-4 The boys would like everyone to know that they are keeping the faith and we should too. They start this week with a game in Millbury Monday night at 5:15pm. The boys play first under the lights followed by the Girls game at 7:00.
Girl’s Soccer: On Monday, the girl’s soccer team lost their first game at Northbridge, 4-1. The only goal for Holy Name was scored by Ana Bowden. At their first home game on Wednesday against Burncoat, came another victory. The score was 3-1. Two goals were scored by Ana Bowden and the other was by Taylor-Victoria Boucher. The girls play under the lights in Millbury Monday night at 7:00, following the Boys team.
Football: The boys stepped it up this week and got their first win. They played South on Thursday night and the final score was 42-7. They hope to carry their momentum into next weeks game against Leominster. That is a home game that will be played at Assumption at 1:00.
Golf: The golf team is currently 4-3 with wins against Sutton, Burncoat, Doherty and Grafton. They have lost to St. John’s , Wachusett and St. Bernard’s (by 1 stroke). And We're Off...
Field Hockey: Their season opener, which was this past Wednesday, was a bit of a nail biter. Holy Name had many opportunities to score against Gardner but had trouble finding the back of the net. In the end, Gardner pulled away with a 1-0 win. Kayla Quinn was awarded with the hustle sticker at the end of the game. The girls have two home games next week, both starting at 3:30pm! Notre Dame and Doherty better watch out!
Cross Country: Their first meet is this Tuesday against St. John’s.
Boy’s Soccer: In the opening week of the fall sports season, the boy’s soccer team had two games. They played SPM on Tuesday and Whitinsville Christian on Thursday. In the game against SPM there were multiple injuries, including Steven Lammi’s 4 broken bones in his face. The only goal scored by Holy Name in their 2-1 loss was by Hun Jun. The boys had another tough game on Thursday losing 4-1. Hun Jun once again had their only goal.. But the boy’s hopes are still high for the rest of the season.
Girl’s Soccer: The girl’s soccer team opened against St. Bernard’s on Tuesday. St. Bernard’s jumped ahead 1-0 with just a few seconds left in the first half. The second half was a different story though. Just 5 minutes in, Erica Soucy scored to tie it up off of a throw in from the left side Not shortly after that, Hannah Owen put the Naps ahead by finishing Bridget O’Sullivan’s corner kick with her head. The game ended in a victory for the girl’s soccer team, 2-0. Their next game is tomorrow night against Northbridge, at Northbridge High School at 7:00pm.
Football: The Holy Name football team had a tough start to the season on Saturday, losing 40-0 to rivals, St. John’s. After starting the game off with an interception by Seamus O’Sullivan, and a drive that lead them not far from the end zone, but after that the team was also plagued with many injuries, from dislocations, to broken bones, to concussions. We hope that the boys will all be back and ready to go when they face South High on Thursday night at Foley Stadium.

Let the Games Begin!
The Red Sox may have opened their season on Sunday, but today was opening day for Holy Name's spring sports. The baseball and softball teams both started their seasons off on the right foot.
The baseball team played Doherty today at Foley Stadium and came away with a convincing 14-2 win. The Naps offense was lead by Dylan Flynn, Taylor Kapulka, and Bill Derosier, who all contributed with home runs. Liam O'Sullivan was solid on the mound, throwing six strong innings, striking out nine and picking up the win. Bill King pitched a scoreless 7th inning. The boys next game is at Haverhill High School on Thursday at 3:45pm.
The softabll team also played Doherty today at Burncoat High School. Behind the solid pitching of Lizzy Patient, who threw 7 shut out innings, the girls came away with a 4-0 victory. Offensively, the top of the order was solid at the plate throughout the game. Cassandra Smith, Keara Lavalle and Jessica DiPilato came through in key situations. We are right back at it again tomorrow, once again playing at Burncoat, but this time against Burncoat at 3:30pm.
The tennis team starts their season tomorrow with their opening match against North at Lake Park.
It is supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so if you are looking for something to do and your in the area, please stop by and root our teams on!

Cheerleader's Advance to New England's!
The last of Holy Name’s winter sports teams is still competing… no it is not the boy’s basketball team, nor is it the girl’s basketball team (more on those teams later), it is our Spirited and Athletic Holy Name Cheerleaders.
Today at Wachusett Regional High School, the Cheerleading Squad finished 2nd to Swampscott and earned a chance to compete next weekend in the New England Tournament. This is the first time in Holy Name History that the girls have had the opportunity to advance to this level.
3 teams qualified for New England’s. A major victory for the girls was placing 2nd in front of Bartlett, who finished ahead of them a few weeks ago at a Tournament in Grafton.
Congratulations to our squad and wish them luck as they move on! I will post details on where and when the girls compete next week as soon as they are available.

Welcome to the first ever HN athletic Blog!
Welcome to the first ever HN athletic Blog!
Before I begin I would like to thank Mrs. Ramsdell (Krystyanna’s Mom HN ’08) for getting this blog site up and running.
If you are reading this blog then I am going to assume you are interested in Holy Name Sports. The idea of this blog is to keep the Holy Name community informed about all that is happening in HN athletics. The plan for the page is this: it will be run by the students for the students and will give updates on what is going on in each of the sports here at Holy Name. We’ve had many people taking some great pictures this year and although we share them on Facebook and with each other, I thought it would be a great idea to share them on our schools website. We have a lot to be proud of in our athletic department and sharing it with the community is going to be fun. I will try to do weekly updates on each team and invite those who are interested to email story ideas or game results as you get them. As we get used to the format, it would be nice to have a “team blogger” who follows their team and sends an update as well as pictures from a game or two.
We are anxiously awaiting try-outs for our spring seasons and will update this blog with rosters as soon as they become available to us. I would like to start by doing a quick re-cap on our fall and winter sports seasons and remind everyone that the Cheerleading Squad is competing this weekend at Wachusett Regional High School. If you can go cheer them on, please do…they have been working hard and deserve our support!
Check back often as we will be up-dating regularly with new stories and information! Become a follower and please join me in making this the go-to place for HN Athletics.
